On the 10 July 2008, MyCBBC social network reached an astonishing 100,000 registered users in 4 months. This interactive medium is specially design for children between 6-12 years old who seek to explore the new digital age.

A user can design his/her own “den” with furniture and accessories but can also customise their page with material related to BBC children’s programmes. Of course this all comes with a subscription price.

The age of online literacy is becoming younger and younger. The internet is essential to every business and many companies show preference to individuals with wider computer and online knowledge. As long as it is in a safe environment, by allowing kids to explore the internet parents are potentially preparing them for future careers. And as the digital world grows, companies are always looking for the next best web designer or viral game creator and consumers are constantly searching for the next Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook – like network. My older brother built his own computer when he was 12 and has recently graduated with a 1st in web design. We can only imagine what today’s child will achieve in the future if he/she is introduced to this world at such a young age.
