There is nothing scarier than starting university; strange new place, even stranger housemates, unfamiliar city or country, full responsibility and more importantly worries about finding friends.

But now students can make friends before they’ve even stepped foot on the campus.

New initiatives has seen a number of Universities set up Facebook groups for specific courses in order to introduce students to fellow classmates before they even start.

I remember the days of being a fresher very clearly and quite how daunted I felt by the experience of making completely new friends.

So all I can say is halleluiah! As there has been a lot of controversy in the media concerning social networking sites in recent months, it’s nice to see some positive stories for a change!
