You’ll have to have been on another planet if you failed to notice the hype the LA games show, E3, has been getting on its return.  Some serious money has been pumped into this year’s show.  So much so that even The Beatles made an appearance to launch their own game.

However, this year you’ll see a noticeable change on the way it’s been reported and covered from previous events.  Lots more online content has been put out there including videos on YouTube, live streaming of sessions, uploads of photos on Flickr etc.

But there’s been one video site that has been mentioned more than any others…Justin.tv.  They have been throwing around some serious numbers for their live streaming video from E3 where big players like Microsoft were announcing new services such as Facebook and Twitter support on Xbox Live. According to them, the live coverage drew in more than 1.6 million viewers.  So those that couldn’t make the event in LA this year are obviously using the powers of the internet to ensure their not missing any of the big announcements.

These type of viewing figures are evidence of the maturity we’re starting to see amongst social media technologies. And the battle for king of the live video is obviously on. YouTube watch out!
