A new competition is underway at Wired.com – author Evan Ratcliff is challenging readers to snap a photo of him in the next month to win $5,000. He’s planning to go off the radar, not even his closest friends or editors will know where he is, but to also maintain his high presence online and continue using Facebook and Twitter. He’s encouraging entrants to stalk track him online to find him as he has promised to frequent sports bars and coffee shops across the US.

The rules are pretty simple,

You will be excluded from winning if you commit a crime in your efforts to find me, contact my family, or physically harm me.

Updates will be posted at wired.com/vanish and Evan’s Twitter is @theatavist so good luck hunting him.

Although it’s a bit creepy-in-a-big-brother-kinda-way, this is a cool idea and I’ll be staying tuned to find out if Evan is found. He’s deliberately trying to be evasive whilst maintaining his online identity, but it begs the question of how easy it would be to find someone who wasn’t trying to hide. Spooky huh..?
